Occupational Safety, Health & Environmental Policy

In Asahi Kasei Plastics Singapore Pte Ltd (APS) and Polyxylenol Singapore Pte Ltd (PXS), we believe that the conduct of all business activities for the manufacturing of Poly-Phenylene Ether (PPE), modified Poly-Phenylene Ether (m-PPE), 2-6-Xylenol (XY), Research & Development and Technical Support for customers and good product quality can only be achieved through a high standard in safety, health and environmental management. Our core values are ‘Safety First’, ‘Good Workplace Hygiene and Health’ and ‘Environmental Protection’. We commit to review our policy annually and meet these core values by full adherence to the following five principles:
- 1. Promotion of Operational Health and Safety
Safety is a fundamental value of our APS/PXS corporate activity. All employees are responsible to follow lifesaving actions and operations (LSA&O) for achieving high level of Operational & Chemical safety. The level of operational safety is continually heightened through a “Plan-Do-Check-Act” cycle. Risks shall be continually evaluated and eliminated where possible and practicable. When elimination is not possible, the effects shall be mitigated.
- 2. Improvement of Safety, Health and Environment & Security
We are committed to improve the workplace safety, occupational health and minimize the environment footprint of our operations through continual improvement programs to enhance the OSH&E performance with the help of consultation and participation from worker representatives. We aim towards preventing injury, ill health and process safety incident through setting of realistic objectives and targets, promotional programs in safety, health & environmental and trainings. We are committed for well-being of every personnel working in the organization and achieving ‘Zero – Safety Injury, Occupational Health illness and Process Safety & Environmental Incident’.
We are committed to enhance our workplace security system, response to the threat of terrorism and cyber-attack. It is our movement to build the resilience of our community, workplace and a call to action to everyone in our multi-racial, multi-religious workplace and society to come together to safeguard Singapore and our way of life. We establish cyber security infrastructure to protect cyber threat.

- 3. Environmental Protection & Responsibility
We shall achieve Environmental Protection through the development and implementation of new and innovative technologies and products by considering all environmental aspects, impacts and its control measures in order to minimize any negative impacts to the environment.
We shall promote climate change mitigation & adaption, reduce, reuse and recycle culture in our daily operations. We will ensure the implementation of processes for the prevention of pollution to the air, water, land and minimize Greenhouse Gases emission to support climate mitigation.
- 4. Legal Obligation and Other Requirement
We shall comply with all the applicable local laws, regulations, other requirements and international best practices related to safety, health and environmental matters in all aspects of our operations through constant monitoring and periodic review of the status of compliance.
- 5. Adequate Training to all Employees and Contractors
Safety, Health & Environmental training and education shall be reviewed regularly, and all APS staff and contractors shall be adequately trained with the necessary skill and knowledge to work safely in the company.
Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP)

The Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP) for Asahi Kasei Plastics Singapore Pte Ltd (APS) and Polyxylenol Singapore Pte Ltd (PXS) has been established in line with the requirements of the WSH (MHI) Regulations.
In Asahi Kasei Plastics Singapore Pte Ltd and Polyxylenol Singapore Pte Ltd, we believe that Business Sustainability and prevention of any Major Accident in the manufacturing of Poly-Phenylene Ether (PPE) & modified Poly-Phenylene Ether (m-PPE) and 2-6-Xylenol (XY) units can only be achieved through attaining high standards for Safety & Environmental performance, and fulfil responsibilities towards the human beings and the environment in & around its facility.
The Company recognizes that the nature of its activities gives rise to major accident hazards to employees, contractors, visitors, neighboring vicinity, members of the public and the natural and built environment. In recognition of its responsibilities to its employees, the public and the Environment, this MAPP is designed to guarantee a high level of protection of human health and the environment.
APS/PXS mission statement in Health, Safety and Environment is zero harm to people & Environment and zero accidents or losses.
We are committed to undertaking all the necessary actions to implement this MAPP policy, APS/PXS developed, implemented and shall maintain at the aforementioned establishments, supported by the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (SS506Part-3) for the Prevention of Major Accidents, which:
1.Describes the functions and responsibilities of the people involved in safety management at the different levels of the organization, as well as other workers, including subcontractors.
2.Identifies, assesses and manages the risks inherent in the activities in order to prevent major accidents from occurring.
3.Develops and implements operating procedures to achieve high levels of operational performance.
4.Defines goals and objectives for safety and environmental activities, monitoring the extent to which they are met.
5.Ensures that modifications are made based on a structured method, minimizing the risks associated with this process.
6.Establishes the emergency response to situations that endanger the premises, workers and neighboring populations, in order to reduce their impact.
7.Develops training and coaching as a means of raising awareness and promoting better performance in terms of safety and the environment.
8.Carries out systematic inspections to ascertain the extent of implementation of the Safety Management System for the Prevention of Major Accidents.
9.Plans an evaluation of the Safety Management System for the Prevention of Major Accidents.
10.Being pro-active in promoting best OSH&E practices.
Energy Policy

Asahi Kasei Plastics Singapore Pte Ltd and Polyxylenol Singapore Pte Ltd, manufacturing of Poly-Phenylene Ether (PPE) & modified Poly-Phenylene Ether (m-PPE), 2-6-Xylenol (XY), is fully committed to making efficient use of energy commodities at its facilities and during its activities, in line with Asahi Kasei Corporation mission and vision directives. We believe in preserving natural resources, reducing atmospheric emissions and helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.
This will deliver a healthier and more sustainable environment, as well as associated cost efficiencies, to the benefit of our people, customers and the communities in which we operate.
Management will lead and promote energy efficiency programmes, ensuring that Asahi Kasei Plastics Singapore Pte Ltd and Polyxylenol Singapore Pte Ltd, works in accordance with the principles established in our ISO 50001 Energy management system.
Asahi Kasei Plastics Singapore Pte Ltd and Polyxylenol Singapore Pte Ltd will use this policy as a framework for setting and reviewing energy objectives and targets in order to improve energy performance and reduce the relevant energy sources used. In order to achieve this, Management will ensure the availability of the necessary information and resources.
Asahi Kasei Plastics Singapore Pte Ltd and Polyxylenol Singapore Pte Ltd is committed to continual improvement in energy performance by improving the use of energy resources at its sites and offices during its activities, throughout their entire life cycle. We will go further and lead by example, pioneering new techniques and optimize existing technologies wherever possible.
Management will support the purchase of energy-efficient products and services, and design for energy performance improvement.
Asahi Kasei Plastics Singapore Pte Ltd and Polyxylenol Singapore Pte Ltd will ensure compliance with all applicable legal requirements which relate to energy aspects, and other requirements to which the organization subscribes related to energy performance, including energy efficiency and the use and consumption of energy. The company will also encourage the adaption of its operations and facilities to ensure compliance with future legal changes.

Quality Policy

Scope
This policy is applicable to Asahi Kasei Plastics Singapore Pte Ltd (hereby known as APS) and Polyxylenol Singapore Pte Ltd (hereby known as PXS). APS & PXS are named the Company. APS is wholly owned subsidiary of Asahi Kasei Corporation (hereby known as AKC) in Singapore for production of 2,6-Xylenol (XY) and modified polyphenylene ether (m-PPE) resin. PXS is a joint venture company established by APS and Global Polyacetal Co., Ltd (hereby known as GPAC) in Singapore for production of polyphenylene ether (PPE) powder.
Statement
The Company has developed its expertise in producing 2,6-Xylenol (XY), polyphenylene ether (PPE) powder and modified polyphenylene ether (m-PPE) resin since its establishment in 2002. The Company is committed:
– to provide products that fulfill the requirements written in the agreement between the Company and the customers
– to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction through consistently providing safe, reliable, and efficient services
throughout its area of operations under an operating license granted by the Singapore government.
Application of Policy
As an organization, the Company will:
– consider and integrate the needs and expectations of interested parties into our business processes
– continually improve the effectiveness of our management system
– continually improve our activities, products, and services by assessing performance against the Company’s objectives and targets
– take appropriate action to identify, investigate, report, and resolve all non-conformances and take timely action to prevent recurrence
– regular audit the management system to ensure its relevance and contribution to the efficient operation of our organization.
Sustainability Policy

Asahi Kasei Plastics Singapore Pte Ltd and Polyxylenol Singapore Pte Ltd, manufacturing of 2,6-Xylenol (XY), Poly-Phenylene Ether (PPE) & modified Poly-Phenylene Ether (m-PPE), is fully committed towards upholding the initiatives and culture in promoting sustainability in our process, activities, products, and services, in line with Asahi Kasei Corporation philosophy of contributing to life and living for people around the world.
We strive for two mutually reinforcing aspects of sustainability: “contributing to sustainable society” and “sustainable growth of corporate value.” By creating value for “contributing to sustainable society”, we seek to gain high earnings that lead to “sustainable growth of corporate value” which enables us to make further contributions in a virtuous cycle.
Based on the three aspects, namely -Prosperity, Planet and People, also known as 3Ps, this Sustainability Policy is in line with the requirement of International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC)’s requirements. Embracing of sustainability for the 3Ps, we are aiming to produce sustainable outcomes with fine tune on our current practice to reduce the carbon footprint and towards having circularity as an integral part of our business strategy and operating procedures.
We have realized that being sustainable does not mean being certified in international schemes, but also integrating the essence in our Company’s working culture. We are resolute to deliver a consistent level of excellent service and customer satisfaction with safe working practices while having minimal impact on the environment:
– Complying with ISCC PLUS and other applicable compliance obligations inclusive of statutory and regulatory requirements (inclusive industry’s code of practice and best management practice).

– Preventing pollution by minimizing the generation of wastes where possible, reducing consumption, recycling materials, and disposing of wastes in an environmentally responsible manner.
– Reviewing the policy annually or when deemed necessary during management review to ensure the suitability, adequacy, and effectiveness of the system.
